Stolle Elected Virginia Beach Sheriff

Garnering over 70% of the vote, Senator Ken Stolle was elected as the next Sheriff of Virginia Beach on Tuesday. He was the top vote-getter for all of the contested races in Hampton Roads, receiving 66,782 votes. Stolle had the full support of the Virginia Beach public safety community, including Sheriff Paul Lanteigne and former Sheriff Frank Drew. He was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Benevolent Association, the Professional Firefighters and the Filipino American Law Enforcement Officers Association of Virginia.

The Virginian-Pilot Editorial staff praises Stolle’s achievements and candidacy

The Virginian-Pilot editorial staff praises Ken in their endorsement for Sheriff. They say, “Stolle, a Republican, is a problem-solver, a deal-cutter, a weaver of consensus. His direct, plainspoken style has earned him a reputation as an honest broker with Republicans and Democrats.” The Pilot continues by saying that Ken’s “…been in nearly every jail in Virginia, knows the ins and outs of the state budget for law enforcement better than anyone, and has an excellent working relationship with retiring Sheriff Paul Lanteigne, Beach Police Chief Jake Jacocks and the City Council.”

Filipino American Law Enforcement Officers Association of Virginia endorses Stolle

The Filipino American Law Enforcement Officers Association of Virginia (FALEOAVA) announced its endorsement of Ken Stolle for Sheriff. The FALEOAVA joins the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent Association, Professional Firefighters and all 11 members of the Virginia Beach City Council in endorsing Ken, who also has the full support of current Virginia Beach Sheriff Paul Lanteigne and former Sheriff Frank Drew, a Republican and Democrat respectively.

Fraternal Order of Police names Stolle their “Senator of the Year”

Local and statewide Fraternal Order of Police leaders honored Ken today as their 2009 “Senator of the Year” at a rally in Virginia Beach with Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell, who the FOP endorsed this morning. Speaking to Ken’s record on supporting public safety, FOP State President Tommy Edwards said, “Ken Stolle is the most influential law enforcement figure in the Commonwealth.”

Stolle and McDonnell were also joined by former FOP State Lodge Presidents Garth Wheeler and Tommy Stiles, Virginia Beach FOP President Doug Zebley, Councilman Ron Villaneuva, Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant and current Sheriff Paul Lanteigne.

Ken has now received the FOP State Lodge’s “Senator of the Year” recognition an unprecedented 4 times since he began serving in the General Assembly in 1992.

Recently Ken was recognized as the “Outstanding Legislator of the Year” by the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. He had previously received the “Senator of the Year” award from the Virginia State Police Association.

Locally Stolle has been endorsed by the Virginia Beach Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #8, Virginia Beach Professional Firefighters Local 2924, Virginia Beach Police Benevolent Association Local 34 and all 11 members of the Virginia Beach City Council. Virginia Sheriffs name Stolle their “Outstanding Legislator of the Year”

Today in Norfolk the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association recognized Ken’s service to law enforcement by honoring him as their 2009 Outstanding Legislator of the Year. “Ken knows better than anyone in the General Assembly exactly what resources Sheriffs’ offices need to protect the public,” said Martinsville Sheriff Steve Draper, who currently serves as President of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association. “This year Ken personally saved nearly 700 deputies statewide from being laid off because of state budget cuts.”

Stolle had previously received the Association’s “Outstanding Legislator of the Year” award on two occasions. He has been recognized by the Fraternal Order of Police, Chiefs of Police and State Police Association with their highest awards.

Police Benevolent Association Endorses Stolle for Sheriff

The Police Benevolent Association in Virginia Beach announced its endorsement of Ken Stolle for Sheriff. The PBA joins the Fraternal Order of Police, Professional Fire Fighters and all 11 members of the Virginia Beach City Council in endorsing Ken, who also has the full support of current Virginia Beach Sheriff Paul Lanteigne and former Sheriff Frank Drew, a Republican and Democrat respectively.

The PBA, comprised of only police officers, is a local affiliate of the International Union of Police Associations. The more than 100,000 law enforcement personnel (one out of every four eligible) represented by the I.U.P.A. are all full time employees of law enforcement agencies ranging from line officers up to first line supervisors as well as civilian employees.

The I.U.P.A.’s mission is to protect and advance officers’ wages, benefits and work conditions. The PBA represents sworn law enforcement officers and support personnel by providing legal services and advocating changes to improve the quality of work life for people employed in all aspects of criminal justice.

Virginia Chiefs of Police recognize Stolle’s “Outstanding Service” in law enforcement

Today Ken was honored by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) for his outstanding service in the Virginia State Senate, and in particular for his dedication to protecting and advancing the interests of professional law enforcement. Senator Stolle has served in the Virginia State Senate since 1991, where he has been a tremendous champion for law enforcement.

“We have previously recognized Senator Stolle as our Outstanding Legislator of the Year,” said VACP President Richard Rappoport, Fairfax City Police Chief. “However, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank Senator Stolle for truly being an outstanding legislator for law enforcement every year he has served in the Virginia General Assembly. He is particularly known for his efforts to improve funding for Virginia law enforcement agencies, and for protecting the retirement benefits of police officers.”

Stolle has broad-based and bipartisan support, boasts 334 donors in 3 months

The July campaign finance filings are in. Ken has $150,455 in the bank compared to his opponent John Bell’s $6,949. Stolle also boasts over 4 times the donors, raising $183,389 from 334 contributors in just 96 days.

While Bell has raised only $7,410 since March, he has yet to spend an additional $5,000 of his own money that he loaned the campaign 4 months ago. Without the loan Bell has only $1,949 in the bank left to spend.

Stolle picks up additional Filipino-American community endorsements

On July 4th Ken participated in the Filipino-American Friendship Day festivities, walking in the parade and addressing the crowd in the ceremonies. Later he met with the Council of United Filipino Organizations of Tidewater, where he picked up additional endorsements. CUFOT is the largest Filipino-American organization composed of various Fil-Am groups in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and other Tidewater areas.

Today the campaign adds CUFOT’s Executive Board President George Daria, Virginia Beach Master Deputy Joe Elicerio, and CUFOT’s 1st Executive Vice-President Nita Cacanindin.

Councilman Ron Villaneuva and Clerk of the Court Tina Sinnen had previously endorsed Stolle at his kick-off in May. Councilman Villaneuva joins the entire City Council in supporting Ken to be the Virginia Beach’s next sheriff. Ken also has the full support of current Sheriff Paul Lanteigne and former Sheriff Frank Drew, a Republican and Democrat respectively.
